The Southeast Super Truck Series and company returned back to Lonesome Pine Motorsports Park. Last time out, the fans received a phenomenal finish, as Chandler Gallman collecting his first career win over Chase Pollard by a mere .006 seconds. The LPMP Sportsman drivers were set to compete with the SEST drivers in a joint race. The teams all unloaded and prepared for the days activities.
The first practice session of the afternoon, it was Morristown Tennessee’s Lance Gatlin who laid down the fast time. Chase Pollard, Josh Gobble, Chandler Gallman, and Austin Peters rounded out the top five. Tazewell, Virginia’s Joe White topped the final practice charts. Qualifying was up next for the drivers, and it was Abington, Virginia’s Josh Gobble who captured the Renegade Race Fuel Pole Award, Gobble rolled a five on the invert dice which now set Gatlin to start in the top spot with Pollard on his outside. Bryan Ramey pulled the Double Aught Injury Lawyers pace car onto pit road and flagman Dylan Greene waved the green flag high above the field. Gatlin and Pollard led the field off into turn one, Pollard was able to pull out front by just a nose over Gatlin’s #52 Cotton Eyed Joes Chevrolet to lead lap one. Eugene Norton quickly went to work as he pulled to the outside of Gatlin as they raced for second place. Joe White slipped past Gobble to take over fifth as he pulled up to the door of the #16 Fairview Tire & Auto Camaro of Tyler Worley.
Worley was making the outside groove work, as he powered past White and drove up to the outside door of Gatlin as they were battling for third. The first caution flew on lap eight as Brayden Goddard spun around on the back stretch. Pollard paced the field back to the KRC Power Steering Restart Zone, and hit his marks. As Worley and Gobble were fighting for fifth, Austin Peters had quietly slipped into the mix of things and was right in the pairs tire tracks. Fifteen laps were in the books as Pollard remained out front since the beginning of the race, Eugene Norton still back in second and Gatlin rounded out the top three. Gobble’s night ended early as he slowed off the pace going into turn one on lap seventeen. As the field crossed the halfway point, Peters pulled his Premiere Dental Arts #66 Impala into the fifth position. Chase Pollard would go on to capture his first career Honey Hush Boutique Limited Late Model victory. “It’s about time for sure, man we had such a good car, my guys have worked so hard this week. This is cooler than winning the championship, this is what you come to do, is win. I have to thank Muscle Car Accessories, Seimer Grading, Heintz Brothers Performance, LP Gear, OK Tire in Canada, my dad and Gauge we work so hard on this stuff. Also Curtis Pardue, he is like family to us.” Stated Pollard in Rick Hendrick City Chevrolet Victory Lane.
The Series will take a few weeks off before returning to Anderson Motor Speedway on June 22 for Race #4. We will be joined once again by Boo Carlisle and his STAR Super Stock Tour. For more information follow us on Facebook as well as our website www.southeastsupertrucks.com.
