(COEBURN, VA) After a month off with the Southeast Super Truck Series, the drivers were eager to get back in action. TJ Williams returned to action for the first time this season, and Toby Hollifield also returned back after a few years off. Bennie Davis came up Friday evening to log some laps and shake his truck down, due to him being absent Saturday morning to attend one of his grandchild’s graduation. First practice was up and it was Draper, Virginia’s Kyle Barnes who set the fastest time in his DCT Towing & Recovery Silverdado. Cameron Williams, Tim Lollis, Toby Hollifield, and TJ Williams rounded out the top five. Final practice it was Candler, North Carolina’s Cameron Williams that laid down the quickest lap; Kyle Barnes, Josh Goble, Tim Lollis, and Toby Hollifield rounded out the top five. Cameron also went on to capture the Renegade Race Fuel Pole Award, he also rolled a five on the invert dice, which now set veteran driver Tim Lollis to start the race in the top spot with Goble on his outside.
Bryan Ramey paced the field in his beautiful Double Aught Injury Lawyers Chevrolet Corvette before ducking off on to pit road. Lollis smashed the gas pedal as flag man Dylan Greene wave the green flag over the field. Lollis led lap one with Goble remaining on his outside, Barnes and C. Williams right in the heels. Five laps on the board and Lollis was still the leader out front, Goble second but having to hold off Barnes who was right on the rear bumper of the #65 Utilitough Silverado of Goble. Now ten laps logged and Lollis, still your leader, the top four remained single file (Lollis, Goble, Barnes, C. Williams). Barnes made a hard charge to the inside of Goble going into turn three, making slight contact and upsetting both trucks. Both drivers were able to gather it up and get back underway, however this opened the door for Barnes as he drove past Goble to take over second, and Cameron following pursuit.
Lollis led the field back to the halfway mark of the shortened race, the top three were nose to tail (Lollis, Barnes, C. Williams). With 28 laps on the board, Barnes finally seen a opening on the outside of Lollis and drove up to the door of the #50 Busted Knuckle Tire & Auto Silverado. Lollis was able to hold off Barnes and pull back out front of the field, just a few laps later Barnes dove to the bottom of Lollis and once again the duo raced door to door. Lap 31 there was a new leader, as Barnes took over the top spot shuffling Lollis back to second with C. Williams who quickly followed Barnes’s line. Lollis would go from first to third in one lap, Kyle Barnes would go on to capture back to back wins at Lonesome Pine. Barnes also would lead the field in the point standings leaving LPMP with a five point advantage over Tim Lollis. “I knew Josh and Tim were going to be pretty tough, unfortunately everyone got taken out in a lap one incident a few weeks ago, so I knew coming back into this week everybody was going to be hungry. He (Cameron) put on one heck of a show in the #15 truck, he stayed with me quite a bit. I got a little urgent getting by Tim, I felt my brake pedal fading there, I didn’t want to run over top of him getting in, so as soon as I seen my opening I got underneath him and was able to capitalize and get the lead. I really want to thank DCT Towing & Recovery, Black Acid Racing Apparel, Ft. Chiswell RV Park, Let’s Stay Home Boutique, Lee’s Body Shop, River Junction Campground & Canoeing, Berts Garage, VHE Chassis Dyno, Story Lawncare, Jerrys Garage, and Minimal-E for all of their support” stated Barnes in Rick Hendrick City Chevrolet Victory Lane.
The Series will take a few weeks off before returning to Anderson Motor Speedway on June 22 for Race #4. We will be joined once again by Boo Carlisle and his STAR Super Stock Tour. For more information follow us on Facebook as well as our website www.southeastsupertrucks.com.
