5/18 WILLIAMSTON, SC - Mother nature wasn't very cooperative during the month of April as every weekend was rained out. So as the Southeast Super Truck Series made their first visit to Anderson Motor Speedway on May 18th, it appeared to be in favor of racing. The sun was out and the temperatures rose. The SEST Limited Late Models had a exciting first race of the season, and was hoping to top that. The teams unloaded and got ready for the busy day of action, three time Super Truck Champion Lee Tissot showed up to test the waters with the limited late model drivers. Returning to the SEST Series was long time supporters the Lollis family, which father Tim used to pilot the Super Truck, then had surgery stepped aside and let his son TJ take over.
TJ appeared to be in tip top shape as he topped the first practice, with veteran driver Ralph Carnes placing the second fastest lap, John Gallman who set the third quickest lap has also been on a roll at AMS picking up a few wins during their weekly series shows this year, Josh Goble and Jason Cochran rounded out the top five. As the second practice rolled around, it was no surprise to see TJ once again on top of the speed charts, with Carnes in second, however Goble picked it up a little and set the third fastest lap, with Tissot and Kentucky's Terry Smith rounding out the top five. The teams had one final round of practice left before qualifying, however not many teams chose to go out the final round. Goble set the fast time, with Smith, Tyler Worley, Alan Rich, and Tanner Brookshire rounding out the top five.
Carnes went on to pick up the Renegade Race Fuel & Oils Pole Award with a time of 16.075, he went on to roll a four on the invert dice which now set Tissot starting on the top spot with Lollis on the outside. As the green flag fell on the field, Lollis quickly went to work on Tissot and took over the lead. Tissot fell back to second and rode around in the tire tracks of Lollis until he came down pit road on lap 17. Brookshire and Gallman battled side by side for the fourth position until finally taking it over and setting his sights on the leader of Lollis, Carnes in second, and Smith in third. Tanner then went to work on the Smith machine until he captured that spot and then made a move on lap 40 on Lollis. It was obvious now at this point, Tanner wanted to win this race, but he had one more car to pass and that was Carnes for the lead.
Goble began working his way up through the field in the latter half of the race, and found himself in the top five and coming on strong. Tanner Brookshire went on to capture his second career victory with the series and first of this year. He was followed by Lollis, Smith, Goble, and Gallman. The series will return back to Anderson Motor Speedway on June 8th for a make up date. This will be a spectacular Southern Grass Roots weekend extravaganza. Sylvia Porter track promoter and SEST Series Owner Jeff Myers have put together the "Summer Kick-Off" with the Fantastic Friday event featuring the AMS NASCAR Weekly show, and Super Saturday with the SEST Series. Divisions racing with the SEST Limited Late Models will be the Carolina Vintage Racers, RPM Pro-Formance Southeast Legends Tour Presented by LJ Dezigns, and the Super Trucks.
