The SEST Limited Late Models made the return to Upstate South Carolina on September 19th. Anderson Motor Speedway has hosted a lot of significant races over the history. The last two races has been won by Ashton Higgins the defending track champion at AMS. The teams unloaded on the beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon. Justin Southerlin topped the first round practice charts with a time of a 16.181, he was followed by Higgins, Ryan Howard, DJ Canipe, and Chris Smith. The second round we seen Chris Whitfield on top with a time of a 16.166. Higgins, Southerlin, Gallman, and Josh Goble rounded out the top five.
Ashton Higgins worked his way to the top of the charts in the final practice, running a quicker time of 16.063. Southerlin, Goble, TJ Lollis, and DJ Canipe rounded out the top five. Qualifying was up next, and it was none other than Justin Southerlin who claimed the Renegade Race Fuels Pole Award. Justin rolled a three on the invert dice, putting Whitfield in the captains seat and Higgins on the outside. Whitfield waited for the flag man Timmy to throw the initial green flag, he and Higgins raced side by side through one and two and down the back straight away. The caution flew right away as the #18 machine of Jock White spun around and backed it into the inside front stretch wall.
Chris led the field back to the green with Higgins on his outside, the pair raced door to door for the lead until Higgins was able to pull out front using the outside line. The battle for fourth quickly began to heat up as Ryan Howard and DJ Canipe were battle it out. Southerlin dove to the inside of the #1 Camaro of Whitfield, as Southerlin was able to take over second. Higgins had a good sized lead over the field and was clicking off the laps, one by one. They crossed the line for the half way mark, Gallman worked his way past Canipe for fourth and brought Archie Adams with him shuffling Canipe back to sixth.
With under a third of the way remaining, Adams began to work on Gallman until he made the charge past the #81 JWI Heating and Cooling machine of Gallman. Higgins would go on to capture his third win in a row, going back to back at Anderson in his Drivers Edge GMS Racing Chevrolet. Justin Southerlin, Chris Whitfield, Ryan Howard and Archie Adams rounded out the top five. The series will return to Kingsport Speedway on October 3rd for the next round of action.
