The SEST Limited Late Models made their return to “Concrete Jungle” Kingsport Speedway on Saturday July 11th. There had already been two different winners in the first two races Ryan Howard and John Gallman. Short track veteran and reigning SEST Limited Late Model Champion was making his first start of the season in this class. As the day went on, it was time for the first round of practice, and it was Tissot who laid down the fastest lap time with Taylor Nesbitt in second. DJ Canipe, Josh Goble and Justin Southerlin rounding out the top five.
Tissot set the fast time again in the final practice round, with Canipe, Southerlin, Josh Goble, and Nesbitt rounding out the top five. As qualifying time drew closer, the drivers were getting in their mode and trying to set the fast time. However, it was Tissot who claimed the Renegade Race Fuels Pole Award at a track he has a long history with. Lee rolled a five on the invert dice, which now set Justin Southerlin in the captain’s seat. This was Justin’s first attempt racing at Kingsport, but has been in attendance a lot in the past helping other drivers.
The field lined back up on the track warming up the tires and engines, preparing to battle for 75 laps. Southerlin waited for the flagman, Timmy Hutson to wave his green flag. Justin quickly jumped out front of the field with Canipe, Goble, Nesbitt, and
Tissot in his tracks. Canipe had just previously climbed out of his Southeast Legends car after capturing the victory and only had a short time before climbing on board his limited car. Tissot worked his way around Nesbitt, now setting his sights on Goble. Gallman found himself battling Caniper for third. Southerlin had a mirror full of Tissot, with the veteran waiting for the right time to take over the top spot. With just fifteen laps remaining Tissot pulled up beside of Southerlin and capitalized on the lead. Tissot led the final laps and went on to capture his first victory of the season at his home track. Justin Sotherlin, DJ Canipe, John Gallman, and Josh Goble rounded out the top five.
The Series will invade the all new revamped Tri-County on July 25th for Twin 50 lap races. For more information log on to our website www.southeastsupertrucks.com or find us on our social media sites. And don’t forget you can watch every race LIVE or on-demand at www.sest.tv.
