The Southeast Super Trucks made the return to Anderson Motor Speedway for the second time on August 7th. After rain came in and cancelled the remaining events scheduled that night, the series decided to carry over the Truck race to August 7th and Twin 50 lap races. Double Aught Injury Lawyers came on board as the event sponsor, and Jeff Caldwell with Jeff’s Auto Sales LLC and Bradleigh Robinson with Honey Hush Boutique put up $600 towards the drivers as a added bonus if they could win both nights.
The drivers took to the track for the first twin race, all with anticipation to be back in action. Taylor Hosford inherited the top starting spot after the invert with series veteran driver Lee Tissot on her outside. As the green flag flew over the field, the drivers worked their way through turns one and two and down the back straight away, however two trucks of Ron Hall #44 and the #2 of Hunter Jarrett got together up against the outside wall. The green flag flew once again for a complete redo, Tissot would lead the first lap of the race. The second caution flew on lap six as the #8 of Ed Surrett came to a stop on the back stretch.
Tissot would pace the field back to the green flag once again, however Hickory’s Clark Houston had other plans as he would jump out in front of the #88 Jeff’s Auto Sales Chevrolet. Previous winner Charlie Watson would follow in Houston’s tire tracks and also move past Tissot taking over second. After a short battle on the track between South Carolina drivers Tim Lollis and Ralph Carnes, Carnes would take over fourth and set his sights on the rear bumper of Tissot. Tissot was doing everything he could to hold on to third, however Carnes had a faster truck. The duo would race side by side, door to door for several laps, before Carnes would take advantage and move past Tissot. Higgins who pitted early in the race, now found himself back inside the top five as he made a pass on Lollis. The battle for second was beginning to heat up in the final five laps, Carnes was all over the rear bumper of Watson. Carnes would drive up to the inside of Watson, and clear him on the back straight away, as the pair would dive back into the third turn, Watson made slight contact sending Carnes up the track. Watson dove to the inside and retook second position. Houston went on to capture the first of the twin races in his #6 Alps Mountain Affordable Hearing, Duck Graphics Chevrolet.
As the night was drawing to a close, the trucks pulled back on the track for the final race of the night. The field was inverted by five from the finish of the first race, which now set Higgins to start the second race on the pole. The green flag flew over the field, Higgins and Tissot were side by side as they went through the turns, Tissot made slight contact with the outside wall but managed to keep pressing on. Houston who had a lot of sparks flying from his truck began to slowly drift back through the field. The first caution flew as the #32 of Tim Dale came to a stop on the front stretch, this opened the door of opportunity for Houston, he came down pit road to the attention of his crew. Higgins led the field back to the green flag, Watson bobbled down the back stretch and this opened the door for Tissot as he drove past the #9W to take over second.
Tissot took over the top spot from Higgins on lap 27, and he would go on to capture the win in his #88 Jeff’s Auto Sales, Quality Heat and Aire Ted Caldwell Racing Chevrolet. The series next stop will be just outside of Raleigh, North Carolina at the tiny bullring of Wake County Speedway.
This will be the first ever for the series on August 28. For more information you can always log on to www.southeastsupertrucks.com or visit us on our social media pages.
