The Southeast Super Truck Series returned to Anderson Motor Speedway on September 19th. As the season is beginning to wind down we have seen several different winners and a lot of tough competition. The first practice was up, and the drivers were eager to get the day under way. Newport, Tennessee’s Ed Surrett topped the first round speed charts with a time of 15.931. Kenneth Headen, Clark Houston, Greg Nix, and Lee Tissot rounded out the top five.
The second practice round, it was the lone female of Taylor Hosford who clawed her way to the top of the charts. This young driver has been the brides-made to victory lane the few weeks with her runner up finishes. Greg Nix, Tim Lollis, Clark Houston, and Lee Tissot rounded out the top five. The final practice round it was the young gun of Tanner Carter from Monroe, Georgia who set the fast time. Followed by Greg Nix, Toby Hollifield, Lee Tissot, and Brett Suggs. Qualifying was up next, where it was Clark Houston who claimed the Renegade Race Fuels Pole Award. Houston rolled a three on the invert dice.
Taylor Hosford inherited the lead after the invert, with Tanner Carter on the outside. As the field was warming up there tires, and engines. The drivers pulled there belts tight, and ready to matt the throttle. Carter was the beneficiary who took off and out front of the field once they went into turn one. Hosford who drifted back into second, now had her hands full as multiple drivers wanted her position. Jamie Barbrey drove to the outside of the #13 Silverado, the pair raced side by side for several laps before Hosford pulled back in front of the #21 of Barbrey. Clark Houston immediately seen the door opening up and he drove to the inside of Barbrey, bringin series veteran of Lee Tissot with him.
Carter who had led the first 17 laps of the race and was able to hold off Taylor. The first caution flew on lap 17 as the #8J of Hunter Jarrett looped it around coming out of turn four. Carter led the field back to the green flag, and again, Hosford was a little slower to take off. She began to catch heat from Houston as he dove to the inside to take over second. Lollis and Tissot were racing door to door battling for fourth place. The second caution flew just a few laps later (lap 19) as Ed Surrett’s #8 Jeff’s Auto Sales Chevrolet Silverado went up in smoke. After a lengthy red flag, the field fired their engines back up and the race was about to get back under way.
Carter led the field back to the green flag with Houston on his outside. Neither Carter and Houston didn’t want to back down, the pair raced side by side for five laps before Houston was able to past the #00 of Carter. Tissot then put the pressure on the young gun battling for second. The third caution flew on lap 26 as Toby Hollifield made contact with the turn two wall, he was able to fire it back up and get under way. Houston paced the field back to the green flag, however the officials did not like the way it started so the caution lights immediately came back on. As the field began to slow back down the #50 of Lollis slammed into the rear of Hosford due to the chain reaction of slowed trucks. Houston led the field back to the green, this time Tissot did not waste any time as he quickly disposed of Carter and set his sights on Houston. Carter left the bottom line open, and Hosford took advantage of it moving into third.
Barbrey and Headen were fighting for fifth, and it was Headen who was able to steal that position away. The fourth caution flew on lap 37, as Toby Hollifield came to a stop on the back stretch ending his night. Houston led the field back to the restart box, where he fired off with the veteran on his outside. The duo raced door to door into one and two, as they went down the back straight away, Tissot powered his way past Houston and into the lead. Hosford seen what was happening in front her and she power bombed her way to the inside of Houston. Carter followed Taylor’s tire tracks and he pulled to the inside of Houston where they battled it out. The fifth caution flew on lap 49 as Lollis came to a stop up in the middle of turn three and four. Tissot led the field back to green flag, Houston took advantage of this restart as he moved past Hosford for second. After multiple unsuccessful attempts of trying to get around Tissot for the lead Houston began to feel pressure from Headen. As they worked their way into the final ten laps of the race. Houston and Hosford were fighting it out for third, but it was Hosford who prevailed. The battle for the lead went down for the final lap of the race between both past three time truck champions Tissot and Headen. Headen nudged the rear bumper of Tissot, sending Hosford into the rear bumper of Headen. Tissot went on to capture his first win of the season. Headen, Hosford, Houston, and Carter rounded out the top five.
