KINGSPORT, T.N. - The Southeast Super Truck Series Presented by City Chevrolet & Textron Off-Road made the trek up the mountains into beautiful Tennessee. Kingsport Speedway otherwise known as the Concrete Jungle hosted the series on October 6th. This was the next to last stop for the series. The drivers arrived early and unloaded, got set up and prepared for the day's activities. After the drivers meeting concluded, they strapped into their machines and prepared to take the first laps around the speedway.
Young Rookie of the Year contender Ashton Higgins set the pace as he topped the charts in the first round of practice with a time of 15.448, he was followed by Madison, Florida's own Taylor Hosford in second and short track veteran Lee Tissot in third. They went back into the pits as they had two more practice sessions. Higgins once again found himself atop of the speed charts during the second round, Ralph Carnes from Anderson, South Carolina clawed his way to second fastest and Greenville, South Carolina's hotshoe Kenneth Headen rounded out the top three. The final practice only seen a handful of trucks enter the speedway, making final runs, Tissot topped the charts. Qualifying was up next.
Lee Tissot went on to claim the Renegade Race Fuels Pole Award on a track he was extremely familiar with. Tissot has a numerous amount of wins and laps around the Concrete Jungle. He went on to roll a four on the invert dice which now set Ralph Carnes on the top spot for the race. As Carnes followed the City Chevrolet Pace Truck around the speedway he had Travelers Rest, SC Jamie Barbery on his outside. Hosford joined the field and was able to make a few laps as she had rear end issues during practice. The green flag was waving high above the field in the air, and Carnes took off however Barbery capitolized on Carnes and took over the lead.
Tissot followed Barbery's tracks and moved past Carnes as well. Roberts holding back in fourth had a three way battle for fifth going on behind him between Weaverville's Toby Hollifield, Higgins, and Headen. As Headen made a low dive under the #5 truck of Hollifield he caught the left rear corner of Roberts, sending him for a spin cycle to bring out the first caution. Both drivers were able to keep going without any contact. Barbery paced the field back to the green, however this time he was going to have his hands full of Tissot. Two laps later the #88 Jeffs Auto Sales Silverado of Tissot made the move on the #21 machine of Barbrey and stole the lead away. Tissot brought the #9 of Higgins with him, however Barbery wasnt about to go down with a fight. Barbery and Higgins battled side by side for a few laps around the track, until Higgins was able to capture the second position.
Tissot and Higgins pulled away from the rest of the field as the race went caution free for over 40 laps. Carnes went to work on the Barbery Steel machine driven by Jamie Barbery to take over the third position. Headen and Hollifield were battling for fifth. They raced into the final third portion, Tissot had caught the tail end of the field and was working on putting #5 machine of Hollifield a lap down, Higgins went to make a run around Hollifield when the pair made contact in turn four. Both drivers were able to regroup, and Higgins came to the aid of his crew awaited for him on pit road.
The field filed back into line again and watched for Tissot to start the race. Headen went to work on the #44 machine of Carnes battling for third position. The third caution flew on lap 51 as there was debris in turn two. Tissot once again set the pace for the restart, Higgins wasn't about to give up this time. The two raced side by side crossing the start finish line, and went into turn one. Tissot being the veteran he is, was able to pull ahead and take over the top spot. The fourth caution flew again as Hollifield came to a stop on the back stretch. Tissot one more time led the field back to the green. Higgins didn't back down as the they raced side by side for a few laps. Tissot went on to capture the victory at the Concrete Jungle and making his fifth win in a row.
The series will roll into Hickory Motor Speedway on October 27th, for the final race of the year. Higgins is now 20 points behind Headen, anything can happen. Make your plans now to come out to the "Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars" for Championship night.
