HUDSON, N.C. - The Gripp Energy Limited Late Models soared into Tri-County Motor Speedway for one final time this season. The points battle is coming down to the wire between Dillon Houser and Jesse Clark. Houser who started out the year on a hot streak, has seemed to hit a rough patch the past few races. However he hasn't really had a terrible night, he has been finishing inside the top five, but Clark has stepped up his program since the beginning of the season. The last time the series visited TCMS the night belonged to Kaleb Pressley who stepped in for car owner and driver Randy Ollis and parked it into victory lane.
After the teams signed in and unloaded, they got set for the first practice round. It was local hometown driver Houser who topped the charts with a lap time of 17.169, followed by Clark in second and previous TCMS Track Champion Josh Goble rounding out the top three. They went back into the pits and made changes to their machines. When they returned for the second practice session it was Goble who climbed his way to the top of the charts, setting Houser back in second, and Kaleb Pressley, (who was once again filling in for Ollis) rounding out the top three. They had one final practice before qualifying and the race, and it was once again Goble who topped the speed charts, followed by Houser and John Gallman (who was debuting his new car).
As qualifying time was getting closer, the tension was rising as well. Josh Goble set the fast time claiming the Renegade Race Fuels Pole Award which was the first for him and Blackbear Motorsports team owned by John Mamph this season. He rolled a four on the invert dice, which now allowed Pressley to start on the front row along with Ralph Carnes. As Pressley paced the field around to the green flag, he didn't waste no time, and jumped out front. Carnes ducked back in line and followed Pressley. As the field completed the second lap, Goble wasn't wasting any time trying to get back to the top spot, he got a run going under Carnes for second, the pair caught the leader coming out of turn four. Carnes, Goble, and Pressley were all three wide going into turn one.
Carnes was able to capitolize on the lead going into turn two. Goble and Pressley were side by side going down the back stretch. The pair stayed side by side for several laps, until they both got a run on Carnes. Again they went three wide into turn one, Carnes backed out a tad and let Pressley and Goble by. Pressley took over the top spot once again with Goble on his heels. The racing through out the whole field was really impressive, with lots of three and even four wide battles going at times. Pressley went on to capture the win once more, followed by Goble, Carnes, Clark, and Houser rounding out the top five.
The GELLM Series will be back in action Friday, September 21st at Anderson Motor Speedway to make up the race that was postponed there back in August. Then they will run twin races at Kingsport to make up another race rained out earlier this year.
