As the 2020 Southeast Super Truck Series Season is quickly approaching us, we are excited to welcome our newest member’s to the staff. For years the speakers were filled with a familiar voice at each of our events, a man who had no enemies and was always knowledgeable. During the off-season, Ronnie Crate Payne announced he was retiring from the series. He was with the series from the very beginning and left a huge empty hole to be filled. After months of searching by Jeff Myers, series owner and Gerald Harris P.R. Director, they finally found the guy to step in the role.
We will kick off the season in just a few weeks, with a new voice. Some may know this gentleman from the dirt tracks across the south, and he has even called some races with Mr. Payne at Newport Speedway. We would like to welcome and announce Mr. Walter Tapp as our new Announcer. He will help get things kicked off at Tri-County Motor Speedway March 28th. He had already made some prior commitments before committing to the SEST Series, so there will be a few races we will have some guest’s filling in for Mr. Tapp. Walter has a lot of experience, matter of fact over 14 year’s of calling races across the southeast. He has also been fortunate enough to call some races with National Hall of Famers Bill Morgan and “HotRod” Lamance. And not to mention he was the first to call the action at the first ever Knight’s of Destruction at Anderson Motor Speedway. “Ronnie is a great announcer and I am honored to be a part of the SEST Series. I have had the pleasure of announcing and calling some great action packed races beside Ronnie. I can’t wait to see all the close and action packed racing that will be happening with the SEST Series this year” stated Walter.
We would also like to welcome two other new members to SEST Family, a gentleman from Lenoir, NC who has had a lot of experience working in other big series over the years (Hooters Pro-Cup, Cars Tour, and NASCAR Weekly racing tracks), Donovan Culbreth. He will be serving as the Assistant Tech Director and be working along side Chad Hunter each week. We also have one more face that will be new to the series, he will be working in the tire barns weekly changing tires and doing other odds and end jobs. David Setzer, is a hard worker and currently works for Champion Tire through out the week, mounting and balancing Goodyear race tires for the top three NASCAR Series.
So with that being said, with all of the exciting things happening this year, we are hoping it will be one of the best season’s to date.
