HUDSON, N.C. - The Southeast Super Truck Series made their last stop of the season in the small town of Hudson, NC. The teams arrived at Tri-County Motor Speedway on Saturday September 8th. What seemed like it was going to be a day with scattered showers periodically actually turned out to be a fantastic day in the foothills. The drivers were determined to chase down current points leader Kenneth Headen. This was set to be a very exciting night as the Super Trucks were running Twin 50's (making up a rained out race earlier in the season).
During the first practice of the day, it was the young hot shoe out of Weaverville, Ashton Higgins who climbed to the top of the charts. Higgins, who is sitting second in points just 25 out of first. He was followed by Tyler Worley, Clint King, Ralph Carnes and rounding out the top five was Headen. The teams went to work on their machines, making adjustments. When the drivers returned to the track for the second practice of the day, the two time Series Champion Headen clawed his way to the top of the speed charts. He was followed by Higgins, Carnes, King, and Ashley Huffman.
They had one final practice to run before tech, and qualifying. Higgins found himself on top of the charts one last time. Headen, King, Worley, and Ed Surrett rounded out the top five. This was Ed's first time returning with the series this year. Qualifying was the next thing on track to take place. The first lap was how the field would line up for the first race and second lap for second race. Lee Tissot and Ralph Carnes captured the Pole Awards.
As the field lined up on the 4/10ths mile speedway, they were ready to do battle for the first fifty lap race of the night. Greg Nix from Travelers Rest, SC inherited the top spot after the invert for the first race. As the field took the green flag, they came out of turn two down the back stretch, several drivers got together bringing the caution right back out. The field set back up for a complete redo, Higgins was able to capitolize on the start pulling out in front of Nix going into turn one. Nix fell back through the top five, and Tissot began to go to work trying to reel down the leader. He battled several laps with Headen, side by side before finally taking over the second position and setting his sights on leader Higgins. Lap by Lap Tissot ran consistent lap times and slowly chased down Higgins.
Tissot had finally caught Higgins and didn't waste any time once he got there, and took over the top spot with just a handful of laps left in the first feature. Tissot went on to capture the win, making it back to back wins for the three time champion. He was followed by Higgins in second, and rounding out the top five was Headen, Carnes, and Taylor Hosford.
Higgins landed on the pole for the second twin 50 lap race after the invert with Hosford starting on his outside. Higgins took advantage of having the top spot, and quickly set sail. However Tissot had other plans, unlike the first race he didn't wait until the end of the race to take over the lead. He got right in the tire tracks of Higgins and followed every move he made. Tissot went on to capture the victory and sweep the night followed by Higgins, Headen, Jamie Barbrey, and Clint King.
The Series will roll back into Anderson Motor Speedway for the final time this season on Friday September 21st. For More imformation on the Southeast Super Truck Series, visit our website www. southeastsupertrucks.com, and of course all of our Social Media sites.
