Built in 1972 in the heart of Virginia's coal country, Lonesome Pine Raceway has been a destination for several regional short track racing series throughout the decades. The American Speed Association, USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series, NASCAR Goody's Dash Series and Southeast Super Trucks have all competed at this tight 3/8 mile oval over the decades.
Harsh economic conditions in the area caused the track to cease operations prior to the 2018 season opener, and while dormant, the track transitioned to a dirt track for the 2019 season unsuccessfully.
In the summer of 2020, the decision was made to return the facility back to its root and the asphalt surface returned, ushering a new era of racing in the Appalachian Plateau.
