The Southeast Super Trucks returned to action for the first time since August 5th, the night a lot of folks wish they could forget. The teams did make the trip up to Lonesome Pine Motorsports Park but were not able to race due to the rain that moved into the Southwest Virginia area. However, this past Saturday was a beautiful blue sky and warm weather. First practice was up and it was Easley South Carolina’s own Tim Lollis who paced the field with the fastest time of 16.139, Cameron Williams, Chris Chastain, Greg Bohanon Jr, and Allen Huffman rounded out the top five. Lollis went on to set the fast time in the final round as well, he was followed by Ralph Carnes, Cameron Willaims, Ed Surrett, and Lee Tissot. Qualifying was up next for the drivers and it was Newport, Tennessee’s Ed Surrett who captured the Renegade Race Fuel Pole Award in his Universal Construction, Jeff’s Auto Sales Chevrolet.

The Double Aught Injury Lawyers pace truck pulled onto pit road and the drivers were ready to get the races kicked off for the evening. Ed Surrett and Ralph Carnes were on the front row, they sailed off into turn one and two and down the back straight away side by side. Carnes had a nose advantage over Surrett’s #8 machine and led lap one. The first caution flew on lap five as heavy smoke flew out from underneath the #15 Ford F150 of Cameron Williams as his track bar had broke. Carnes led the field back to the KRC Power Steering Restart Zone, however before they could complete a lap, multiple trucks tangled together in turn two, those collected were Taylor Hosford and Greg Bohanon Jr.

Carnes once again led the field back to the green flag, Tissot with a huge boost of momentum ducked under Ed’s #8 machine and took over the second position in turn two. The third caution flew just a few laps later as Bennie Davis looped his #66 Silverado around on the back straight away. Carnes your leader once again led the drivers back to the KRC Power Steering Restart Zone this time with Tissot on his outside. Ed Surrett and Tim Lollis in the second row, and Allen Huffman rounding out your top five. And just a few laps later the #66 of Davis brought out the caution as he spun around in turn two. Carnes led the drivers back to the green flag on lap 13, with 37 laps remaining. The fifth caution flew as the #51 of Allen Huffman went over the nose of Ed Surrett’s #8 in turn one. Tim Lollis and Jesse Smith were also involved in the crash as they had no where to go.
Tissot who inherited the lead from the last caution paced the field back to the green flag, and would go on go on to capture the first twin 40 lap feature victory. “It’s been a long time since I won, Im glad to be here. Ralph Carnes is a heck of a race car driver, and I won’t take that away from him. It’s all on Jeff Caldwell right here, Jeff’s Auto Sales he supports all these series and tracks. Honey Hush Boutique right here in Anderson, Enjoy the racing guys, it’s not going to last much longer” stated Tissot in Double Aught Injury Lawyers Victory Lane.

The second twin feature was up later that evening, the top three were inverted which now set Taylor Hosford on the top spot and Ed Surrett on the outside. The pace truck dove onto pit road and Hosford waited for the flag man to wave the green flag, Hosford and Surrett soared off into turn one side by side. Surrett would lead lap number one, just inches over Hosford, before finally able to pull out front and ahead of the field. Just around the half way mark Hosford had been doing a incredible job of holding off Tissot for the second position, Tissot made slight contact to the left rear of the #13 Annett Bus Lines Chevrolet, Hosford drifted sideways up the track and was able to hold onto it, Tissot waited for her to gather it back up before he began to apply pressure once again. Ed Surrett would go on to capture his first win in a long time with the Southeast Super Truck Series. “Yeah we had a junk truck there for a while, Mitchell Mote built this truck brand new, everything kept breaking, kept breaking, we would lead the race and it would break. And I said if we can ever put it all together we can beat them. Im 60 years old, Im just feel good to be here, much less win this thing. I really want to thank Jeff Caldwell, he helps the racers, he’s got a billboard back here. We have been friends for over 40 years, I gotta thank Mitchell Mote, he has fought, fought, and fought for this” stated Surrett in Double Aught Injury Lawyers Victory Lane.

The series will have a few weeks off before returning to action one final time this season, and that will be Championship night at Hickory Motor Speedway on October 21st. The points battle will be coming down to the checkered flag as Allen Huffman has a five point lead over Tim Lollis, and seven points over Chris Chastain, Cameron Williams and Greg Bohanon Jr round out the top five in points. SEST Limited Late Models

On Saturday September 30th the SEST Limited Late Models returned back to Anderson Motor Speedway for the third time this season. The previous race out the Southeast Super Truck Series were only able to get one race in before the rain moved in and it was Garrett Lowe who picked up his first career victory. With just a couple race weekends left of the 2023 season the points battle was coming to a close tight battle. The teams all unloaded and prepared for the day’s activities, knowing they had two twin 40 lap races to compete in later that evening.

First practice was up for the drivers, and it was Upstate South Carolina’s short track veteran of Ralph Carnes who topped the speed charts laying down a quick time of 16.014. Eugene Norton, Justin Sorrow, TJ Lollis, and Cameron Williams rounded out the top five. Final practice was up next and it was three time Anderson Motor Speedway track Champion Justin Sorrow who had the fastest time of the practice round of 16.151, Norton laid down a identical time tying for the fastest. Qualifying would be up next for the teams and drivers, Marshall North Carolina’s Eugene Norton driving the CVO, Red Oak Crossing, Steves Rare Coins, Mountain Plumbing, Scott Haynie Trucking, Twisted Images, Freeman Hot Rod Rescue, Norton Tire & Wheel Mitch West prepared Ted Caldwell Racing Ford Fusion who captured his first career Renegade Race Fuels Pole Award this season.
The qualifying grid was separated by just 3/10ths of a second from first to last place, so everyone knew it was going to shape up for a close fit race. The drivers all climbed in their machines and were prepared to do battle for 40 laps in the first twin race. Bryan Ramey who was piloting the Double Aught Injury Lawyers pace truck dived onto pit road and we were under way. Norton quickly jumped out to a early lead as they sailed off into turn one. The battle for second was already intensely heating up as Ralph Carnes was holding off hard charging Justin Sorrow and Gary Greenwood Jr. As well as the battle for fifth as Chase Pollard was holding off Garrett Lowe and Lance Gatlin. Norton led the first 32 laps of the race until the season veteran of Carnes made a move to the inside on the front straight away to battle for the lead. Carnes was able to take over the top spot and would go on to lead the final laps of the first twin feature in his Campbells Tree Service, Lollis Metals, Karnage Exhaust Chevrolet. “I just wanted to apologize to everyone for my actions in the first truck race, I have Jesus Saves on my windshield and that isn’t a way to represent him, I just lost my cool. I cant thank my team enough for their hard work, and all of my sponsors for helping me get here” Stated Carnes in the Double Aught Injury Lawyers Victory Lane.

The final race of the night, the top three were inverted from the finish of the first race, so this put Sorrow to start the race in the captain’s seat. The Double Aught pace truck pulled onto pit road and flagman Timmy Hudson waited for the drivers to approach the start finish line before waving the green flag. Sorrow and Norton remained side by side through one and two and down the back straight away. Sorrow was finally able to pull out front of the #27 Ford and lead lap one. The battle for third was already heating up as Carnes had a mirror full of Lance Gatlin and Garrett Lowe. The first caution flew on lap three as a haggle of cars tangled together coming out of turn four, those collected were Brayden Goddard, TJ Lollis, Austin Peters and Chase Pollard. All of the drivers were able to pull away from the scene and drive to their pit stalls to the aide of their crew. Sorrow led the field back to the KRC Power Steering Restart Zone, where he hit his marks. Carnes quickly took a peak to the inside of Norton as the pair battled for second. The second caution flew just one lap later as the #66 of Austin Peters spun around in turn three while taking a look under Cameron Williams #15 Camaro. Sorrow once again led the field back to the KRC Power Steering Zone, this time Norton tried to hang on a lot closer. However the caution flew once again as the #98 LP Gear of Chase Pollard went around in three and four. Sorrow paced the field back to the restart zone and we were off again, Sorrow and Norton raced door to door for five laps before the #9 of Sorrow was able to pull out in front of the field.

Carnes wasted no time as he pulled to the inside of Norton’s #27 machine fighting for the second position. Sorrow had a little slip up coming out of four and they were three wide going down the front straight away. The fourth caution flew as TJ Lollis’s #50 went around on the back straight away, Norton led the field back to the KRC Power Steering Restart Zone. Norton was able to pull out front easily on the restart and sail away, as they drew closer to the finish Sorrow began to turn up the heat as he pulled up to the rear bumper of Norton. The white flag waved high over the field as Sorrow dove to the inside of Norton, they drag raced down the front straight away and it was Norton with a nose over Sorrow. “Words cant describe how much this win means, this is two years. I run the whole season last year, and we have run the whole season this year. I just want to thank Mitch, Jeff, Ken, there are so many, Jake, Mike, Tyler, my wife, my mom and dad. And my sponsors, if it wasn’t for these sponsors we couldn’t do it. CVO, Red Oak Crossing, Mountain Plumbing, Twisted Images, Scott Haynie Trucking, Norton Tire & Wheel, there are so many that make this happen” stated Eugene Norton in victory lane.

The Series will take a few weeks off before returning to action at Hickory Motor Speedway on October 21st on Championship Night. The points battle is super close going into the final race of the season, TJ Lollis is still the leader, however reigning Champion Chase Pollard is just four points back in second. Garrett Lowe is sitting back in third, five points away from Lollis, Lance Gatlin is seven points out, and rounding out the top five is Eugene Norton.
