The Southeast Super Truck Series and company returned to action after a month of solid rain outs and postponements. On Saturday June 10th, they made the trek up to Southwest Virginia as they came to compete at Lonesome Pine Motorsports Park (Formerly known as Lonesome Pine Raceway Park). The drivers were all eager to be back in action. The first two practice rounds were topped by the young driver from Tazwell, Virginia of Blayne Harrison. Harrison would go onto capture the Renegade Race Fuels Pole Award just seven thousand’s quicker than Joshua Gobble. Harrison would go on to roll a five on the invert dice, whi now set Gray, Tennessee’s Brayden Goddard on the top spot with reigning 2022 SEST Limited Late Model champion (Chase Pollard) on the outside. As the field lined up on the track behind the Rick Hendrick City Chevrolet pace truck, and completed their warm up laps, it was finally time to go racing.
The green flag waved high above the drivers and they all sped off into turn one, Goddard with the early advantage as he quickly soared out front. Pollard instantly went in defense mode as several drivers began to attack him for the second position. TJ Lollis, Josh Gobble, and Eugene Norton were all fighting hard for the runner up position, and this was before the field completed two laps. The racing was intense between the top five drivers, as they came out of turn four to complete lap three, Lollis looped it around to bring out the first caution of the night. As Goddard worked his way back inside the KRC Power Steering Restart Zone, he quickly mashed the gas pedal and took off. Once again Pollard had to defend his runner up position, Gobble and Norton were right there.
The battle for third and fifth were the sights to see as they were door to door. With four laps down the field was working out of turn two as the 88 of Brad Housewright made contact to the right rear of the #7 of Harrison, resulting in Harrison spinning around to bring out the second caution. Goddard once again led the field back to the green flag with Pollard on the outside. The battle for third began to get hot quick as Gobble and Norton were battling it out for the position. Lance Gatlin and Housewright were side by side fighting for fifth. Norton not only was able to take over third but he also set his sights on Pollard and snuck by the #98 LP Gear machine to take over second position.
The drivers went on a long green flag run as they completed the halfway mark, Goddard was still your leader. The third caution flew on lap 26, as the #88G of Gobble made contact with the left rear of Norton coming out of turn two, Norton went around and managed to keep it off the wall. This time Goddard had his hands full on the restart, as Gobble was not backing down from the fight. After one lap of side by side racing, Gobble was able to take over the lead making it the second lead change of the night. Gobble went on to capture the victory, followed by Blayne Harrison in second.
The series will invade Hickory Motor Speedway on July 15th for the third stop of the 2023 season. For more information please visit us on the web www.southeastsupertrucks.com or any of our social media sites.
