The Southeast Super Trucks Presented by Rick Hendrick City Chevrolet kicked off their first race of the season at Anderson Motor Speedway on Saturday, April 13th. This marked the beginning of the 13th season, and Anderson has been home to the series since the inaugural season kicked off. There has been two previous champions that have racked up three or more champions, those being Kenneth Headen (4) and Lee Tissot (3). Then several other drivers have scored one championship each Kevin Leicht, Clint King, Clark Houston, DJ Canipe, and Allen Huffman.
The 2024 season had two new comers to the series, those being of 13 year old Jacob Maxwell from Suffolk, Virginia and Kyle Barnes who has championships in Limited’s at Lonesome Pine Motorsports Park, Pulaski Motorsports Park (Motor Mile Speedway), and Kingsport Speedway. Jay Norville from Forest City, North Carolina has competed with the series only three times before with the last being in 2020. The first practice was up and it was Lenoir, North Carolina’s Josh Goble in his Smart Electric/ Blackbear Transmission’s Chevrolet Silverado that paced the field laying down the fastest time of 15.974. Final Practice was up next and it was once again Goble who topped the charts. Goble would go on to Capture his Renegade Race Fuel Pole Award of the season.
After Goble rolled a 3 on the invert dice, the top three were jumbled up which now put Tim Lollis starting the race on the top spot with Kyle Barnes on his outside. Bryan Ramey pulled the Double Aught Injury Lawyers pace truck down on pit road, the field paced their way to the start box where flag man Dylan Green waved the green flag high in the air. Lollis and Barnes completed the first lap side by side, and about half of the second lap until Lollis was able to pull out in front of Barnes. The first caution flew on lap 35 as Jacob Maxwell looped his Suffolk Alignment and Auto Care Ford F150 around on the front stretch. Cameron Williams who had just previously pulled his #15 T&D Trucking Ford F150 down onto pit road, Williams had been chasing transmission, and rear end issues all weekend.
Lollis led the field back to the KRC Power Steering Restart Zone, and hit his marks. The second caution flew with less than 15 laps remaining in the feature, as the #91 Norville Auctions Ford F150 driven by Jay Norville drove hard into the third turn and spun around making contact with the inside wall. Once again Lollis paced the field back to the KRC Power Steering Restart Zone. The third caution flew just a couple laps later as the #3 of Jacob Maxwell suffered a suspension issue causing his truck to make contact with the turn three wall, and ended his night early. Lollis for what would be the final time of the night would lead the field back to the green flag and sail off to capture the victory. “He was giving me all I wanted on them restarts, First of all I just want to thank the good Lord, if it wasn’t for the good Lord I wouldn’t be able to do this. The truck has been good pretty much all weekend, its old, its like me old, but it gets the job done. I’m just tickled to death to get a win in this thing, I’m just glad the 00 (Kyle Barnes) ran me clean, he ran me hard but clean, I appreciate that. I just have to thank the fans for sticking around” stated Lollis in Rick Hendrick City Chevrolet Victory Lane.
The Series will take a week off before heading to Southwest Virginia’s Lonesome Pine Motorsports Park on April 27th. They will be joined by the STAR Super Stock Series as well as Lonesome Pine’s Street Stocks and Pure 4’s.
